Elliott Rodgers

Working out life one day at a time.

My Site

This generation of my site is run completely using a self hosted version of WordPress as a CMS, a first for my personal site. It uses a modified Prosumer Theme, (which I’m still in the middle of tweaking and modifying). The image on the header is from a photograph I took while out with Sheppie, it’s the view from Lowndes Park looking down Pednor Valley. The small About image on the top left is me scuba diving.

My site is hosted on a Virtual Private Server from Names.co.

Plugins

So far I’m using the following plugins:

Akismet

No brainer really, it cuts down on spam and makes sure pretty much none of it gets through to posts and pages themselves. (hint for spammers: this means your purile, pathetic attempts at getting your time wasting spam on my site will fail. So go swim somewhere else you bottom feeding pond life.

All In One SEO Pack

Let’s me add custom meta data to posts and pages, increasing getting stuff listed in search engines.

cd-qotd

A simple WordPress quote of the day plug-in. I use this for the thought of the day box on the left. I like the ease of use and fact I can have the same quote for everyone on a given day. This is random. I’ve added some witty quotes, some computer geeky quotes and a fair few inspirational quotes.

Contact Form 7

Does the contact form on my site, great, easy to use form. (I also use Really Simple CAPTCHA for the CAPTCHA part).

Google XML Sitemaps

Builds an XML sitemap of my site. Great for boosting the SEO stuff.

HTML Page Sitemap

This has been brilliant and an amazing help. Not only does it beautifully and automatically handle the sitemap of my site it also handles the lists that you see on pages like My Poetry and Fun. It uses a shortcode so as I add content or move it around, the lists change. Sheer brilliance.

Official StatCounter Plugin

Have used StatCounter for years and don’t plan on stopping. First class hit counter which gives you loads of information.

Subscribe To Comments

Lets readers get notifications of new comments that are posted to an entry.

WordPress Database Backup

Gives on-demand backup, always handy when your whole site is WordPress based. Has an email option which is great means I can tuck backups safely away and don’t have to remember to do anything.
