I don’t mind owning up to a tear in my eye while I wrote this poem, inspired by “Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone” by W. H. Auden. It is dedicated to US Police Dog Morgan who died from injuuries sustained at 9/11 on 25th July 2011.

Fallen Friend

Flags at half mast,
squeaky toys put away,
wagging tails set to slow.
A silent twenty one,
dog bark to salute,
a hero on her final run.
Where angels roam,
and doggy playtime,
lasts forever.
A fallen friend,
paid the price,
so we all run free.

In Memory of Police Dog Morgan

Another tragic loss from 9/11…. A hero died today. Whenever I read about someone else’s dog passing away, I always give Sheppie an extra cuddle and an extra treat. It seems more poignant when it is a police or military dog. Morgan’s story is so sad, she paid the ultimate price for helping at 9/11. World Poetry Day

Happy World Poetry Day – my contributions to the world of poetry can be found with the Poetry Tag or there is more on the Poetry page.

Had I realised it was poetry day sooner, I may have created a poem to celebrate – oh well have a whole year to do something now.

Your Choice

It was your easy choice,
betrayl and deception,
breaking my heart.
I don’t believe,
anything you say now,
nor your fake tears.
So keep on walking away,
leave the dreams,
shattered behind you.
Take all the hopes,
crush them beneath,
every footstep.

Some future day,
you’re going to remember,
all the good times.
You’ll never know,
what the tomorrows,
could have been.
You’ll wonder,
was it the right thing,
saying goodbye.
Being a heartbreaker,
means you’ll never know,
what you threw away.

Wish I Knew

As you walked out of my life,
did you even feel a thing?
Maybe a tiny crack,
in your heart of stone?
Did a single tear,
reach the open air?

As you lay awake in the dark,
are you lonely any more?
Do you miss being held,
all through the night?
When you wake up,
do you wish I was there?

Do you want to turn back time,
so you can change it all?
Say some different words,
do things another way?
Start all over again,
or never take a chance?
