Working out life one day at a time

About Me

I’m Elliott, a 39 year old single guy living in Chesham, South Bucks (that’s in the UK nearish to London), I share my home with my furry best friend Sheppie, a four year old Border Collie, although sometimes it does seem the other way round! He’s great for getting me out of bed in the morning and often tries to distract me from work. His all time favourite toy is a rubber pig which grunts when he rolls on it or chews it. I’ve nearly always got some sort of camera with me since I enjoy photography, I write poetry (which often surprises people), enjoy cooking and my sense of humour has been descirbed as unique.

My life is currently chaotic since I fell on ice and broke my leg!

When I was sixteen, I went to a Steve Flashman concert (Baptist Minister and Rock Musician). While at the concert I became a Christian. I’m go to a thriving local church and enjoy lots of the different parts of church life. In September 2009 at Restor Hope Latimer I saw dozens of people healed. On a personal level as a Christian I know I’m only human. I often fail to live my life the way God wants, I sin. However I also know I’m forgiven thanks to Jesus Christ and the gift of the cross.

In my twenties, I was a member of a search and rescue unit as a Search Medic and Trainer, I still keep in touch with some of the members, including some who are still active in the unit. Until recently I kept my skills updated by doing medical event cover work at White Star Medical. I get to treat a variety of unusual injuries (the most unusual injury I’ve been involved in treating is probably a vulture bite) and get paid to go to some great events. I’m still humbled by the trust placed in me by complete strangers when they or their loved ones are injuried or ill.

Through both the search and rescue unit and White Star Medical I’ve also been to places and seen things I just wouldn’t have done, stood twenty feet away from well known music stars and watched them perform, met (and treated) Olympic athletes, seen motorbike races extremely close up and I’ve acted in the role of medical management at a number of different events from sports events to musicals events with crowds in their thousands. I also currently hold the White Star Medical company record for working the furthest from the office – Marrakech, Morrocco! (At a VIP/Celebrity wedding).

I’m also a qualified First Aid Trainer, I get a real buzz out of teaching First Aid, I see it as a massive responsibility, training people who will end up quite possibly saving someone’s life. Over the last sixteen years I’ve taught all ages and backgrounds including adults with learning difficulties. To my knowledge my students have saved someone’s life on at least nine occasions, one of these was only eleven years old when she saved her Grandmother’s life after a heart attack. My youngest student so far was seven, my oldest seventy three.
