SAS Fire and Security Doorstop Scam

July 31, 2010 By: Elliott Category: Personal Bit.ly URL: http://bit.ly/qWNJji

a company called SAS Fire and Security Systems Limited (or it may be from Crime Research UK) is cold-calling residents in the Chiltern district and offering to install ‘free’ security systems with a ‘small’ ongoing monitoring and maintenance cost. The company claims the security systems are being offered as part of the Crimestoppers summer campaign which Chiltern District Council and Thames Valley Police are currently taking part in. This is not true, SAS Fire and Security has nothing to do with this campaign. If you are approached by SAS Fire and Security Systems Limited or any organisation you are unsure about, please don’t let them in your home or give them any of your personal details.

The scammers trading as SAS Fire and Security Systems Limited is not the company based in Essex who have no connection with the scammers

You can contact the community safety team at Chiltern District Council on 01494 732089, call Consumer Direct (Trading Standards) on 0845 404 0506 or call the Thames Valley Police on 0845 8 505 505.

Clarification: Comments have been added to this page about the fact that scammers who are operating this scam are also using the name Homeguard UK Fire & Security Ltd. I recieved a letter from a Mr Phillips (dated 25 Feb) who was concerned that my site and the comments were casting unfair allegations on the legitimate company Homeguard Security Systems Ltd who had given him excellent service. This use of a similar name is a popular method with scammers.

These scammers are in no way connected with legitimate company Homeguard Security Systems Ltd (who clearly state the fact on their website).

I do not currently work for either Thames Valley Police or Chiltern District Council – I do however get p****d off with scam artists who target the elderly and vunerable.

  1. We believe are now trading as Homeguard UK Fire and Security. Cold calling with offers for alarms for £1.00! Homeguard UK Fire and security was we believe to be opperating previously as SAS fire and security ltd. THEY ARE TARGETING THE ELDERLY…….

These companies have nothing to do with Homeguard Security Systems Ltd (who are based in Gldersome Leeds).

If you do get a call from from Homeguard UK Fire and Security or if you have any information, we suggest you contact Trading Standards on 08454 040506.

    Hi,

Thanks for a very quick reply to my latest email concerning the scammers. Glad you appreciate my comments. I have an intense and deep dislike of those who target the elderly and vulnerable there is something which is just so distasteful especially when it’s selling things like security and fire safety. Let’s hope that people will be cautious and the scammers wont benefit from their evil behaviour.

As I’ve noted in the previous post about SAS Fire and Security “I do however get p****d off with scam artists who target the elderly and vunerable”. I have plenty of friends who are elderly and a couple of adults with learning difficulties. Two friends both only just managed to avoid their elderly parents falling for this scam last year. It took myself and three large male friends appearing in the lounge to persuade two of the scammers that actually they did want to leave as the (very sweet) elderly couple had been asking them politely too for the past hour. My friends and I weren’t so polite.

If I can be of any further help then please let me know.

I was cold called today and I agreed to have a survey undertaken which I was advised would take 45minutes. They originally gave me a time of 6.30pm but this was not convenient as we have friend coming at 7.00pm so a time of 5.30 was agreed. The rep turned up at 6.05 which was too late as this rep says his survey will take about an hour and a half. So, we suggested re booking for later in the week. The rep phoned his boss – Lee – to try and arrange; he wanted to speak with me and insisted that his rep was early for the original 6.30 appointment which he claimed I had agreed to. He then lost his rag and accused me of wasting their time. This is a manager who needs to be trained in customer care and manners; I was actually interested and wanted to hear what they have to offer but not now, nor ever

  8. Homeguard Security says:

    Insolvency Service (National)
Two Cheshire based companies which sold monitored burglar and fire alarms to members of the public, making millions in the process, were today wound up in the Manchester District Registry following an investigation by Company Investigations of The Insolvency Service.
The investigation established two connected companies ‘SAS Fire and Security Systems Limited’ (“SAS Fire”) and ‘Crime Research UK Limited’ (“Crime Research”), worked in a coordinated manner targeting elderly customers with false promotional offers and high pressure sales tactics. In a 31-month period to September 2010, SAS Fire netted sales of over £18.1 million.

Natalie, I moved a bulk of the press release into a complete post so it would get the coverage it deserves rather than being stuck at the bottom of a comment list – hope this is okay?

    :-)

Over 18.1 million :-O that makes at least 1,200 elderly victims by quick calculation…

Hope you are all having a little celebration?
